I suppose I first started dining out in posh establishments in the 1970's. Those were the days of Jensen Interceptors, Beef Stroganoff, Steak Diane and Crepe Suzettes.
What a delight to find a restaurant here on the Costa that serves up these delicious traditional masterpieces amongst an extensive menu in great surroundings. I am referring to the newly opened La Bruja Flamenca in Benalmadena Pueblo. I went there a few Sundays ago with Annie and Cherry and
Dave. We were greeted at the restaurant by Jose Rodriguez and his wife Julie. Jose is Spanish, but spent a long time as a restauranteur in Manchester and cracks English jokes. A terrific fellow. He handed me my menu upside down. The
views from the terrace were spectacular - the whole coastline in front of you while you eat. We were presented with complimentary tomato mouse. Everyone gave it top marks. The starters were terrific, spectacular Foie Gras, a massive Avocado Salad, Smoke Salmon Marinade and Prawn Cocktail.
For the main course Dave choose the Stroganoff, flambeed at the table. He declared it superb. Annie and I selected the Lamb with apricot and Serrano ham with a mint sauce - Totally delicious. Cherry choose the Cordon Bleu Chicken, also well received. Everything was served with a great selection of fresh vegetables, another rarity in Spain these days. The pudding selection was incredible. Dave went for the Crepes Suzette. Annie and Cherry ordered Cheesecake with a mandarin and fruits of the forest sorbet with a biscuit base. As I am diabetic Jose made me a sugar free pudding (well almost!) of pineapple in Malibu with fruits of the forest Jose told me that he is working on inventing diabetic desserts. The chef
came to see us. He is the young and talented Michael Halouzka Radomir. If his Sunday lunch is anything to go by, we will be hearing more of him in the future.
